At the age of 18, after receiving my Malaysian
high school certificate of education results I started thinking: ‘Which course
should I choose? Which university should I go for? Should I go to a national
university? Or a private university?’
I kept on searching for information online and
from books. Then I found out about ARCHITECTURE. I dived deep into Architecture and discovered that it is both the process and
planning, designing, and constructing buildings or any structures. To me, the uniqueness of building
structures is so magical and they really impress me.
For years, I’ve observed architects creating
fictional elements from their minds into reality, creating superstructures and
skyscrapers that blows off our minds. This is why I am so passionate about
discovering more about it and can’t stop myself from browsing the internet,
just to see photos of buildings.
I started collecting
information from my seniors and relatives. For weeks, I’ve been scrolling on my
phone, watching all the university videos and advertisements. It was hard for
me to decide which university to choose for my tertiary studies.
Then one day, I met a
counsellor over the internet, asking me a few questions. After he knew I was interested in Architecture,
he suggested me a few universities. One of them was UCSI University. I found
out that UCSI University was indeed a famous university for Architectural
studies, and I have a senior classmate who had also chosen UCSI for her studies
in Architecture.
So finally, I came all the way from a
small town in the suburbs of Pahang to Kuala Lumpur, to pursue my studies in
Architecture, at UCSI University.
I’m a 20 year-old girl, undertaking my first
year in Bachelor in Science (Hons) Architecture at UCSI University. I started
my Foundation in Science studies at UCSI University before I proceeded to do my
Architectural degree.
Time has flown past, and it has been two years
ever since I made my first step into UCSI University. And I know I didn’t make
a wrong choice. UCSI University provided myriads of facilities for me. For
instance, the gymnasium, basketball court, badminton court, library, computer
lab and facilities for Architecture school is undeniably well-equipped and surpassed
my expectations.
They have even provided an architecture
laboratory, namely the “make lab” specifically for Architecture students!
The students can make their models, woodcrafts
and commence their woodwork using cutting-edge technology with the most
advanced machines available.
During my first semester, we had a timber
workshop where we were taught to construct a bench from scratch. We learnt about
the tools and its functions, and the way to use them correctly. We mingled and
cooperated well with our classmates.
After taking architecture, I realized
UCSI University really changed my life, and it is no longer a bed of roses anymore.
Design is part of architecture. Students
always need to improve their design, redo, redo, redo and redo. “Architorture”
is the other nickname for architecture.
Now, I really feel that Architecture has taken
away a lot of my time. However, when I see my achievements with my projects, I
feel content and satisfied for my sacrifices as I cherish the progress made.
In my opinion, the most important thing is
that I am constantly learning and improving myself.
Studying at UCSI University was perhaps one of
the best choices I had ever made in my life. They provide a good environment
for me to study. They provide scholarships for student who are in need. They
organize a variety of activity for students to participate in. This is UCSI, a
platform that nurture seedlings for a better future and a better
community.
Pursue your object of passion,
be it what it will, steadily and indefatigably.
